20,000 dollars toward college, plus a laptop, book credits and emergency funds, for seniors in a college readiness programme who are Pell eligible and have at least a 2.4 GPA. The GPA floor is deliberately low: this one is aimed at students who will finish, not students with the best transcript.

20,000 dollars in total across your degree rather than in one year, and it can be spent on what college actually costs. The programme also provides a laptop, book credits, emergency funds, free teletherapy and career support.

Closes each year on 15 February, next in 120 days

What you need

The official page does not list required documents. Check the official page before you apply, since a provider can ask for paperwork it does not publish.

How to apply

  1. 1Check your college readiness programme is on the approved listThe requirement is participation in an approved programme, and the foundation keeps its own list. TRIO, Upward Bound and GEAR UP are the usual routes in. Confirm yours is on it before you count on this.
  2. 2File the FAFSA, because Pell eligibility is the testYou do not have to have the money yet, but you have to be Pell eligible, and the FAFSA is what establishes that. Finalists are asked for a FAFSA Submission Summary, so it has to exist by then anyway.
  3. 3Line up a transcript and a recommender earlyFinalists are asked for a current transcript, the FAFSA Submission Summary and an online recommendation, on a deadline about two weeks after being named. Asking a teacher in March is much harder than asking in January.
