U.S. Department of Education/Government grant
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
Amount variesLimited number available
Extra federal grant money for undergraduates with the greatest financial need, paid by your college rather than by the government. Colleges are required to give it to Pell Grant recipients first. It does not have to be paid back, and there is no separate application: the FAFSA is the application.
The amount is set by your college out of a fixed allocation it receives, so it varies between colleges and between years, and the regulation states no figure. Ask your financial aid office what their range is.

What you need
The official page does not list required documents. Check the official page before you apply, since a provider can ask for paperwork it does not publish.
How to apply
- 1File the FAFSA, and file it earlyThere is no separate FSEOG application. Colleges award from a fixed pot and stop when it is gone, so filing early genuinely changes what you get, which is not true of most federal aid.
