U.S. Department of Education/Government grant
GEAR UP Scholarship
A scholarship for students who took part in GEAR UP at school, once they start an undergraduate course. The regulation sets a floor rather than an amount: it cannot be less than the smallest Federal Pell Grant, and under older grants not less than the lesser of 75 percent of in state cost of attendance or the largest Pell Grant.
The regulation sets a minimum rather than an amount, and the maximum is set by whoever holds the grant. Under 34 CFR 694.14 the minimum is the smallest Federal Pell Grant at the time of award. Under 694.13, which covers grants first awarded before 14 August 2008, it is the lesser of 75 percent of the average in state cost of attendance for a four year public course, or the largest Pell Grant. Ask the GEAR UP office at your school or state what the figure is where you are.
