Migrant Education Program

Support in kind

Extra teaching and support at school for children whose families move for seasonal farm or fishing work, and a records system that carries your credits with you when you move. Your state is supposed to find you. If nobody has, ask the district for the migrant education office by name.

Services rather than money, and the regulation states no value. What a state provides is set by its own needs assessment, so it varies. The records system is worth asking about on its own: it moves your academic and health records between states so credits are not lost each time you move.

No deadline

What you need

The official page does not list required documents. Check the official page before you apply, since a provider can ask for paperwork it does not publish.

How to apply

  1. 1Ask your school district for the migrant education recruiterEvery state that receives these funds employs people whose job is to identify eligible children. Ask for that person or for the migrant education programme by name rather than asking generally about extra help.
  2. 2Be ready to describe the move and the workEligibility is decided on an interview about when you moved, where from and to, and what work followed. Dates, an employer name or a pay stub all help, and 200.89 requires states to re-interview and document, so being clear the first time saves repeating it.Done by your parent
