For 16 to 24 year olds who left school without finishing. You work toward a diploma or equivalent while training in construction or another trade, and the work experience is paid. Going back to school afterwards does not disqualify you.
Training and education rather than a grant, and the regulation states no amount. It funds supervised work rehabilitating or building housing, occupational skills training, paid work experience including internships, and the teaching needed to reach a secondary diploma.

What you need
The official page does not list required documents. Check the official page before you apply, since a provider can ask for paperwork it does not publish.
How to apply
- 1Find the nearest YouthBuild programmeIt is run by local organisations holding a federal grant rather than by a government office, so there is no central application. The Department of Labor keeps the list of current programmes.
- 2Say if you went back to school after leavingThe rule covers someone who dropped out and later reenrolled, so returning does not close this off. People assume it does and never ask.
